Day 6: Favourite superhero, and why.
In the midst of all that is Infinity Wars, I must disappoint the hardcore Marvel fanatics. My love and admiration for Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, and, basically anyone in the MCU, grows with every new release: character development, story arcs, emotions. The last nineteen films, and ten years have lead to a huge growth in the development of geek culture, as comic books provide an outlet for the young, and the artistic to become engaged in a world that they can escape to, when reality is all too much.
Everyone has their personal favourite character, of course. Traditionalists will choose Superman, Captain America, The Fantastic Four, or Wonder Woman. The oddball may say Jessica Jones, Aquaman, Captain Britain, or Mantis. I, on the other hand, like many, have always chosen the caped crusader as my favourite superhero.
Batman is polarising to many. Some never understand how he sustains taking so much punishment from his enhanced gallery of rogue foes. But it’s the man behind the mask that encapsulates me. Bruce Wayne: billionaire by day, masked vigilante by night. He spends his wealth attempting to bring down Gotham’s worst, yet dines with the elite all the same. His Marvel comparison, Tony Stark, shares his enthusiasm for gadgetry and extravagance, but Bruce is a true mastermind: a true detective, and that’s what Batman is all about. It’s not the combat, but the process in piecing together the information to bring justice to those that deserve it.
