Some people bite their nails. Others click their fingers incessantly. A lot of people have twitches, and a lot more spend too much time staring at the square-vision in the corner of their living room. They all have one thing in common: they’re all bad habits.
Day 4: A habit you wish you didn’t have
As it turns out I do quite a few of the things I’ve mentioned, though I get stared at sordidly for clicking my fingers the most (but it’s so satisfying!) That being said, there is one habit that I suffer from most, and it really gets under my skin sometimes. It’s the demon that’s there at 3am when sleep is needed most: overthinking.
You know what it’s like to have everything thought out to an absolute tee: everything is perfect, and nothing can go wrong. ‘But what about ‘x’?’ That’s what gets you. It’s the smallest inclination of doubt that sits in the mind like a toxic cesspool in a wasteland. A fish hook of hell. In my life, most disagreements have came about on the basis of overthinking situations; trying to find meanings in things words that simply have no deeper understanding that can be inferred from it. Yet, without fail, every simple action or gesture or phrase from another human eventually makes its way into the forefront of my mind, to be analysed to within an inch of its life.
It is one of my biggest downfalls, and a habit I’d love to kick to its grave one day. For now, I can only try to not be awake long enough for it to do any damage beyond it simply existing.
